A Charming little companion
This little book (literally, 5.5 x 8.25 inches, 55 pages) by Italian Author Gastone Scheraggi is a a visual delight.
That's important, because if you, like me, can't read Italian, you'll buy it for all the wonderful little pictures: from the cover Teatrino Libertas, to the Teatrino Inglese, and Pollocks' Il Pirata Barbanera.
We have come to expect the best from publisher Edizioni Essegi (Ravenna) and Teatrini di Carta does not disappoint: vivid, vibrant color; exhaustive commentary — ok, so you might have to resort to a dictionary — and, most of all, a wonderful eye in putting together a delightful collection.
The author has dug into his archives and presented us with treasures such as Joseph Stolz's 1840 figures of Barbieri di Siviglia, and marionettes with articulated arms and legs. You'll want to cut them out — and dangle them on a string.
