Measuring just 3.5 x 2.75 x .75 inches, the Agave Miniature Nativity adds a different setting to our miniature nativities collection. That leafy agave plant, that double stone arch, those curlicued carved columns, all that ivy! It's a palatial setting for the Nativity, which unfolds below a bright Star of Bethlehem which has come to rest on the roof. Aware that paper stars are especially fragile, this five-pointed one is attached to the front by a paper band. So that, if a mishap happens, all you need do is turn on your printer.

At first glance it seems as though you're seeing double. Don't Baroque Miniature Nativities 1 & 2 look almost identical? Both are set in the same elaborate Baroque proscenium festooned with red fabric and decorated with urns, scrolls, and angels. And both Nativity scnenes unfold under a myriad stars. But that's where the similarities end. The differences? In the Star of Bethlehem; the Adoration of the Magi and the Adoration of the Shepherds; in the Christmas message that appears in fancy script in the scroll of the front, "Gloria," and "Peace;" and in the mirror image of the proscenium in Nativity 2, which adds yet another variation to this Baroque extravaganza. I love seeing them hanging by a gold cord from my Miniature Crèche Tree. But if you wish to display them, instead, you may do so, by attaching a small tab to the wrong side of the front that acts as a stand.

The fold-out construction allows even the front fence layer with a Magi and a shepherd to open, creating a marvelous 3D effect. Isn't it about time Crèchemania joined the miniature crèche craze?
We're not the first to downsize nativities, but let me tell you, these little beauties in the Crèchemania Miniature Collection 1 sure don't look "small."
They look glorious! For one thing, the art is superb, with some of the nativities hailing from the early part of the 20th century when the lithographer's art was flourishing.

Is that Joseph of Arimathea holding Jesus' hand as He is being lowered into the sepulcher wrapped in a sheet? Could that be Mary Magdalen standing at right, and an Apostle at left, clasped hands held to his chest? The two-page 17 x 13 sheet made possible a wonderfully large — 11 x 10.25 inches — nativity which, at almost 3 inches deep, features five layers: There's the front, with its climbing trellises, caped woman, sheep, duck and stork; Layer 1, that includes a magi, a goat, a kneeling shepherd and a shaggy dog; Layer 2, with two magi, a shepherd and a shepherdess; Layer 3, with Mother and Child and Joseph; and the manger, with sheep, the ox and the ass, and large window that — when its panes are replaced with cellophane — would bathe the nativity scene in golden light.

Originally published in 1933 by the Saalfield Publishing Company, Akron, Ohio in 1933 as a punch out booklet "To set up," The Manger Scene now opens up to reveal six layers topped by a straw roof. This Premium Download features a curved front, a feature not often found in the world of paper crèches. The front, brightly illustrated with shepherds, sheep, foliage, and palm trees, curves back and the roof folds back and is inserted into the manger façade making assembly a cinch. Although this is Twelve-pointed Star Nativity No. 3, the only thing it shares with No. 1 & No. 2 are the figures. But here they're rendered in bright colors, not the more subdued tones of the others.
