Sometimes I get all excited telling you about the beauty of a paper nativity, that I forget to also tell you how much fun its assembly can be!
So, let me right that wrong right now.
TheGothic Arch Nativityis special because of its vintage age and folk-style art. But what's special about it as well is its ease of construction.
But I shouldn't really be using heavy words, like "construction" to describe this rather ethereal-looking creation of the paper modeler's art.
As you can see at left, four folds is all it takes to create the manger. The addition of cellophane is optional, but always welcome. I always love the golden glow cellophane windows impart.
You also see at left one of the bands — attached to the side walls, that supports the Mother & Child and Magi piece, in place in the image at lower left.
Just look how the colorful Mother & Child and Magi stands out from the muted background of the manger. It's as though the photo, all of a sudden, was colorized!
Mouseover the thumbnails at upper right to see other views, especially the detail image of this Nativity.
Outside the manger, three shepherds on bended knee, adore the Newborn Child, and on the right, next to a blooming bush — don't miracles happen on the 25th of December? — a young shepherd boy seems eager to approach the stable.
Inside, under three golden Gothic windows, Magi, hands held in prayer, adore the Child held — some might say almost half-hidden — in Mary's embrace.
You just might fall in love with the Gothic arch Nativity — just as I have.
