Don't let the rich architectural details of the Apse Nativity — a curving interior apse, a wrap-around exterior — scare you from creating this special paper nativity.
Inspired, as always, by beautiful vintage artwork from the Crèchemania Collection, the Apse Nativity is nevertheless an original design.
You'll love the 360º finished look. In fact, I'm tempted to place it on a revolving platform.
Another thing I'm tempted to do is hang one of those tiny LED lights (from one of those "flameless candle") inside the oculus of the apse, and turn on the timer to come on at night. Those candles light for 5 hours and then shut off for 19, to automatically come back on again at the same time the following evening.
What I was also tempted to do is replace the windows with cellophane or "stained glass" ones printed on transparency film.
But I was too anxious to see it finished, and I resisted that temptation. But that doesn't mean that you should, too!
 | Diagrams — like this inside view of the exterior — make assembly clear.
| | Clear, illustrated, step-by-step instructions
Creating all the construction diagrams was as much fun as designing the Apse Nativity.
The step-by-step instructions are accompanied by diagrams that illustrate the assembly process, even for inexperienced enthusiasts.
So don't let the "Experienced" skill level labe discourage you! Besides, what better way to gain that experience than this unique, wonderful, project that'll give it to you in spades.
So, let's forget the "experienced" label. What really is required to create this unique crèche is patience and care. There's nothing really difficult involved in its assembly.
In fact, I suspect that once you complete your first Apse Nativity, you'll fire up your printer so you can create another.
With cellophane windows, perhaps?
